The institutional context within which health care professionals must practice influences the kinds fo issues, dilemmas, pressures, temptations, and constraints they face. Indeed, social institutions and systems embody and express many of the ethical norms, expectations, and standards of society. When those institutional arrangements undergo significant change, as the health care system is doing today, old ethical dilemmas may be alleviated, and new ones arise.
