TUNNEL TO ETERNITY
BEYOND NEAR-DEATH
LEON RHODES
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 1997

From the experience of dying to awakening to tunnels, bright lights, unfamiliar realms, life reviews, and different levels of consciousness, Leon Rhodes takes the reader on a great adventure into the unknown. An officer in the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS), Rhodes recounts the stories of near-death experiences (NDEs) that people have shared with him over the years. The profound changes in their lives after their discoveries are chronicled as a source of inspiration.

In addition, the fascinating parallels between NDEs and the spiritual world, described over two hundred years ago by Emanuel Swedenborg, provide many insights into the transition from this life to the next world. Rhodes' unique Swedenborgian perspective broadens the discussion over the significance of the near-death phenomenon.

EVALUATING YOUR DAILY PROGRESS ON THE PATH TO HEAVEN WITH GURDJIEFF & SWEDENBORG
PETER RHODES
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2005

Based on the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff, P.D. Ouspensky, Maurice Nicoll, and Emanuel Swedenborg, Peter Rhodes presents a practical guide to spiritual progress. Stressing personal responsibility for overcoming negative traits, each chapter explains how we can realize our true spiritual potential by cultivating awareness of our baser reactions and by applying the tools of Gurdjieff's spiritual method, "The Work," to our everyday existence.

Rhodes joins "The Work" with the spiritual philosophy of Emanuel Swedenborg to enhance our understanding of how the world of spirit intersects our lives on the earthly level. At the conclusion of each chapter, tools for measuring the reader's progress are provided in the form of weekly tasks and meditations. This book can be used in group workshops or by the individual.

Carl Robsahm
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2011
Written in 1782, Memoirs of Swedenborg by Carl Robsahm is without doubt the most compelling eyewitness account of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772) to be published in any language. Drawing on reminiscences from his own long-standing friendship with and years as a neighbor to Swedenborg, Robsahm offers a fascinating picture of the Swedish philosopher and mystic as a man of gentleness and integrity.

Rich in detail and generosity, this memoir is a classic in its own right and a primary resource for all subsequent biographies. This edition has been selected and edited by Stephen McNeilly featuring revised translations, an introduction, and annotations by the renowned Swedish scholar Anders Hallengren. It also contains eight other historical documents concerning Swedenborg’s day-to-day life, three of which are from the hand of Swedenborg himself.

The volume includes:

• “Memoirs of Swedenborg” by Carl Robsahm
• “Reply to a Letter from a Friend” by Emanuel Swedenborg
• “A Truthful Account of the Late Queen Dowager at Haga in 1774” by Anders von Hopken
• Extract from the Proceedings of the Exegetic and Philanthropic Society in Stockholm

• “A List of Valuables of 1770” by Emanuel Swedenborg
• “A Visit to Swedenborg’s Home” by Carl Christoffer Gjörwell
• Testimony by Christian de Tuxen

Each document is accompanied by its own individual contextual introduction and annotations by Anders Hallengren. Also included in the volume are a general foreword and introduction by Anders Hallengren, a chronology of Swedenborg’s life and works, and an index.

12 Miracles of Spiritual Growth
A Path of Healing from the Gospels
E. Kent Rogers
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2012

Our spiritual wounds and weaknesses, E. Kent Rogers tells us, are truly blessings in disguise. They allow the Lord to enter our hearts and work through us, revealing his healing power to all.

In this practical guide to healing our inner selves, Rogers takes the reader on a journey through twelve of Jesus’s miracles from the Gospels, examining the lessons that each can teach us. From the story of the Canaanite’s daughter (healing from feelings of unworthiness) through the miracle of the resurrection of Lazarus (finding spiritual rebirth), Jesus’s miracles trace a path of spiritual growth that is as powerful today as it was during his lifetime.

Written as a guide for group sharing, this book can also be used for personal study. Each chapter concludes with a guided meditation, a summary of the lessons taught by the miracle being discussed, suggested exercises, and questions for discussion or reflection. While the book grew from the author’s experience as a Swedenborgian, it can easily be used by seekers from any faith tradition.

Seven Days of Spiritual Evolution
The Genesis of Personal Transformation
E. Kent Rogers
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2018
What is the Creation story in the book of Genesis really trying to tell us? Is it truly a divinely-inspired description of God creating the world in just six days? With the ongoing evolution of modern scientific discoveries, these questions can be a challenge for Bible-readers like humanitarian and psychotherapist E. Kent Rogers—which is why he believes the story of Creation is actually a timeless guide for our own transition from darkness to light.

In Seven Days of Spiritual Evolution: The Genesis of Personal Transformation, Rogers responds to a growing movement of biblical literalism by turning to eighteenth-century spiritual teacher Emanuel Swedenborg, who wrote prolifically about how the deeper symbolic meanings of Bible text can provide spiritual guidance. Using Swedenborg’s language of correspondences, Rogers shows us how Genesis 1 describes our psychological landscape as it unfolds along the horizons of our inner journey toward God. He draws insightful parallels between the different stages of our spiritual growth and contemporary psychotherapeutic treatment—from person-centered to cognitive to behavioral therapies. To make the intangible tangible, Rogers accesses what he has learned as both a mental health counselor and spiritual practitioner to offer workable methods for improving how we think and behave on a daily basis.

Intended as a tool for anyone who is interested in personal and spiritual development, Seven Days of Spiritual Evolution weaves psychology, spirituality, and everyday experience into a practical approach to growth. “Faith isn’t about drawing lines in the sand or judging others,” Rogers says, “it’s about learning how to love others and to love God.” Ultimately, it’s about opening our hearts to the Bible as a useful and never-ending guidebook for God’s all-loving, redeeming, and merciful work in the world.

WHAT SWEDENBORG HEARD IN HELL
DONALD ROSE
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2000

Conversations with Angels revealed the wisdom imparted to Swedish scientist-turned-seer Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) by heavenly spirits. This companion piece presents Swedenborg's encounters with evil spirits, narratives arranged thematically by Donald Rose and newly translated by Lisa Hyatt Cooper from several of Swedenborg's works. Swedenborg experiences hell as the provision of a merciful God who seeks restraint of evil spirits that would do harm rather than vengeance or punishment of those who did evil on earth. God, according to Swedenborg, allows people to choose a life of hell, but always "bends them toward a 'milder hell.'"

THE JOY OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH
REAL ENCOUNTERS
Frank Rose
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 1999

Frank Rose and Bob Maginel provide people seeking spiritual growth and recovery a practical handbook for accomplishing their goals. Recognizing that spiritual growth can be stymied by materialism and external preoccupations, the authors offer tasks and exercises that can be used repeatedly to help tame the "wild beasts," the negative emotions that can control our lives and destroy our relationships with others.

A special feature of the book is the "Reporting on the Task" section at the end of each of the twelve tasks, in which participants who were enrolled in a real-life twelve-week seminar share their struggles in their own words. Their successes and setbacks in applying the tasks to daily life underscore the ongoing nature of the recovery process and remind us that the joy of spiritual growth is linked to enjoying the journey.

Swedenborg's Garden of Theology
An Introduction to Emanuel Swedenborg's Published Theological Works
Jonathan S. Rose
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2010

When he entered the visionary phase of his life, Swedish theologian Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) set out on a journey to document all that he had seen, heard, and learned while in contact with the spirits of heaven and hell. Before his death, he wrote eighteen different works published in twenty-five volumes, totaling about three and a half million words.

Navigating that rich garden of thought has been a challenge even for scholars of Swedenborg, let alone those new to his work. In this compact guide, Jonathan S. Rose introduces readers to the basic concepts of Swedenborg’s thought, including Swedenborg’s view of God and the afterlife and his description of humanity’s spiritual history. Rose also examines how Swedenborg’s theology relates to other Christian denominations, both in his time and ours, and takes a side trip into some of Swedenborg’s more unusual ideas.

Swedenborg’s Garden of Theology provides an ideal introduction for anyone seeking a starting point to delve into Swedenborg’s religious thought.

SWEDENBORG'S LIFE, WORK, AND IMPACT
Jonathan S. Rose
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2005

The essays in this volume testify to the far-reaching effects of Emanuel Swedenborg’s works in Western culture. From his early days as an ambitious young scientist in the ferment of the eighteenth-century Enlightenment Europe, through his mid-life entrance into an ongoing experience of the spiritual world, to his last decades as a researcher of things spiritual, Swedenborg built a career that left a unique legacy. His vivid descriptions of the nonphysical realm made a powerful impression on minds as diverse as Goethe, Blake, Emerson, Yeats, and Borges.

This book serves as a self-contained resource on Swedenborg’s life and thought and as a gateway into further exploration of the labyrinthine garden of Swedenborg’s works. It includes a biography, rich in fascinating detail; lively overviews of the content and history of Swedenborg’s writings on spiritual topics; and essays tracing Swedenborg’s impact in various regions of the world.

Reflections on the Mystical Visions of Jorge Luis Borges and Emanuel Swedenborg
William Rowlandson
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2015
In 1978, the great Argentine short story writer Jorge Luis Borges described Emanuel Swedenborg as the most extraordinary man in recorded history. In Imaginal Landscapes, William Rowlandson offers a brief but deep-reaching study of this often-unknown appreciation, showing how the Swedish visionary's influence has gone a long way to explain Borges's preoccupations with parallel existences, the infinite, and the mystery of language. Delightfully written and steeped in a wonderful sense of curiosity, Imaginal Landscapes cements Rowlandson's position as one of the UK's leading scholars on Borges, and it raises important questions about the criteria we often use to assess the lives and works of those thinkers and writers who have come to be labeled as mystics.

A Descriptive Bibliography of the Works of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772)
Norman Ryder
Swedenborg Foundation Publishers, 2012
A Descriptive Bibliography of the Works of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) is a reference work that no publisher, library or academic of Swedenborg should be without. Editors and proofreaders will be grateful to be able to look up publishing and bibliographic details of Swedenborg editions spanning over 300 years without having to make trips to various libraries, or trawls through their respective catalogues (not one of which matches Norman Ryder’s Bibliography for the comprehensive detail of its records). For academics, meanwhile, Ryder’s new Bibliography will be useful in providing contexts and overviews of the compositional and publishing history for each of Swedenborg’s individual texts. And for ‘professional’ Swedenborgians, academics and all other interested readers of Swedenborg alike, the Bibliography contains a wealth of useful and fascinating information, revealing, beneath the astonishing depth of its data, the stories and trends behind the reception of Swedenborg’s works across the globe.

Volume Two of the Bibliography contains:

·       ‘Section C: Bibliographic Descriptions, 1743-1755’

Also included in the volume are an introduction; lists of abbreviations; and a glossary of bibliographical terms.
