Control-oriented Modelling and Identification
Theory and practice
Marco Lovera
The Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2015
This comprehensive book covers the state-of-the-art in control-oriented modelling and identification techniques. With contributions from leading researchers in the subject, Control-oriented Modelling and Identification: Theory and practice covers the main methods and tools available to develop advanced mathematical models suitable for control system design, including: object-oriented modelling and simulation; projection-based model reduction techniques; integrated modelling and parameter estimation; identification for robust control of complex systems; subspace-based multi-step predictors for predictive control; closed-loop subspace predictive control; structured nonlinear system identification; and linear fractional LPV model identification from local experiments using an H1-based glocal approach.

Methods and applications
Carlo Novara
The Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2019
The scientific research in many engineering fields has been shifting from traditional first-principle-based to data-driven or evidence-based theories. The latter methods may enable better system design, based on more accurate and verifiable information.

Design of Embedded Robust Control Systems Using MATLAB® / Simulink®
Petko Hristov Petkov
The Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2018
Robust control theory allows for changes in a system whilst maintaining stability and performance. Applications of this technique are very important for dependable embedded systems, making technologies such as drones and other autonomous systems with sophisticated embedded controllers and systems relatively common-place.

Language at Work
Analyzing Communication Breakdown in the Workplace to Inform Systems Design
Keith Devlin and Duska Rosenberg
CSLI, 1996
People are very creative in their use of language. This observation was made convincingly by Chomsky in the 1950s and is generally accepted in the scientific communities concerned with the study of language. Computers, on the other hand, are neither creative, flexible, nor adaptable. This is in spite of the fact that their ability to process language is based largely on the grammars developed by linguists and computer scientists. Thus, there is a mismatch between the observed human creativity and our ability as theorists to explain it. Language at Work examines grammars and other descriptions of language by combining the scientific and the practical. The scientific motivation is to unite distinct intellectual traditions, mathematics and descriptive social science, which have tried to provide an adequate explanation of language and its use on their own to no avail. This volume argues that Situation Theory, a theory of information couched in mathematics, has provided a uniform framework for the investigation of the creative aspects of language use. The application of Situation Theory in the study of language use in everyday communication to improve human/computer interaction is explored and espoused.
