AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY
Peter Gottlieb was state archivist of Wisconsin and director of the Library and Archives at the Wisconsin Historical Society prior to retiring in November 2010. Before starting these positions in 1991, he had worked as an archivist at West Virginia University (1977–1983) and at the Pennsylvania State University (1983–1990). He earned his BA (Honors) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1971 and his MA (1974) and PhD (1977) in US history from the University of Pittsburgh.
David W. Carmicheal is state archivist of Pennsylvania. He served previously as state archivist of Georgia and director of Records and Archives for Westchester County, New York. He is a past president of the Council of State Archivists and a Distinguished Fellow of the Society of American Archivists. He has overseen design and construction of two state archives buildings, led the national Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records (IPER) project to protect government records, and served on NARA’s Advisory Committee for the Electronic Records Archives.
