Addressed primarily to the specialist in money and banking theory, this book is nevertheless easily intelligible to the general economist and to the layman acquainted with the outstanding English books in the field. It is unique in that it is the first attempt to present a general synopsis of any contemporary foreign literature in monetary theory. The author has had in mind two main purposes, to both of which he has devoted equal care: the first is to make available in summary form the content of a large literature from which many students are debarred by the obstacle of language or time; the second is to present critical comparisons and appraisals of its outcome in the light of monetary science generally.
