ABOUT THIS BOOKGrace in the Cabin is based on a decades-long haunting of a secluded fishing lodge in the northern Wisconsin woods. The story begins with multiple terrifying paranormal events that the author, a spirit medium, and her family experienced.
Through her mediumship, the spirits reveal to the author the events that sparked the haunting, ultimately leading to resolution and freedom for both the living and the dead.
AUTHOR BIOGRAPHYAntoinette (Tiyi) Schippers grew up in the mid-twentieth century, the third child in a family of ten children. Hers was the fourth generation living in a Victorian house on the northwest side of Chicago. They did not dwell there alone, however. The house was said to be haunted by an abundance of spirits, including not only her ancestors but also those who had built the home at the end of the nineteenth century. Growing up surrounded by spirits enabled Tiyi to awaken and enhance her unusual gift of seeing and communicating with those who inhabit a world beyond corporeal reality. Growing up among a multigenerational family of storytellers gave her a gift of telling those stories.
As a young adolescent, Tiyi contracted a mysterious and disabling illness, leading to a misdiagnosis, with a dismal prognosis of increasing limitations and early death. Unable to participate fully in the physical world and with a profound realization of mortality, Tiyi set her mind and spirit to explore the metaphysical world and what comes next. She found solace in music, art, books, and stories, while also discovering what most people consider the paranormal, but she understands the true wonders of reality. This allowed her to keep the threads that flow in and between multiple dimensions clear and present throughout her life, leading her to become a spirit medium and gatekeeper.
In mid-life the illness that had crippled her was correctly diagnosed. A new, effective treatment allowed her the possibility of longevity and greater mobility, yet her sense of spirit remained intact. Tiyi has shared her gifts freely whenever someone reached out needing assistance. Over the years, she has helped living, dead, and never-living beings find peace. From her first experiences to the present, Tiyi has not only been a gatekeeper but also a teller of stories that reveal a deeper awareness of the fullness of reality.
Tiyi is married and lives with her husband, David, in a house filled with friends, family, music, art, and stories in Cadillac, Michigan, where she serves as mayor.
She and her husband raised four remarkable children, who blessed them with wonderful spouses, and five delightful grandchildren. Tiyi is a retired teacher, artist, musician, activist, public servant, spirit medium, and storyteller.
