This is an English translation of twenty-three essays written by the Chinese author Zhang Chengzhi, spanning over twenty years. The collection of prose covers Zhang’s memories when living in Inner Mongolia, his perception of the Western part of China, his views on several figures, and events in modern Chinese history and contemporary China.
