ABOUT THIS BOOK
“I am reminded of the Argentinean writers Julio Cortázar and Jorge Luis Borges, but with sunglasses and in California. The Flying Garcias is a sure voice and a fine book.”
—Alberto Ríos
AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY
Richard Garcia, a native of San Francisco, has published a bilingual book for children, My Aunt Otilia's Spirits, the poetry collections Rancho Notorious, The Persistence of Objects, and the chapbook Chickenhead: Prose Poems.
REVIEWS
“In a voice that is funny, tender, sad and wise, a hybrid of the lyrical and the colloquial, Richard Garcia delights us with his imagination and his knowledge of the human heart. These poems remind us that the earth still has secrets and wonders among its terrors. If there were angels, they’d talk to us in just this tone.”
—Maura Stanton
“The Flying Garcias is the first full-length collection by Richard Garcia. And yet, in reading these refreshing poems, one has the sense that he has been poetically tracking the inconsistencies of our culture for a long, long time. His drop dead timing is as masterful as his natural grace is rare. An air of enchantment surprises on every page.”
—James Tate
“The Flying Garcias is an exceptional book—funny, fierce, moving, and always—no compromises, ver, for Richard Garcia—originally imagined.”
Thomas Lux
